2022 Tundra Spy Shots

“It has been over a year since we caught the next-gen Toyota Tundra pickup out testing, but that changes today. New spy shots show the full-size truck running around in a thick layer of camouflage and coverings. Just like the first time we spotted a next-gen Tundra, this one is sporting skirts, brushes and other materials to block our view of the rear suspension. But the big news is that under the camouflage is what looks like a totally new and different truck. Both times we previously spied the Tundra, it was still the same cab and truck underneath. Toyota didn’t even bother to cover up the doors. This truck looks entirely different with a new cab design, hugely different front end, massively different mirrors, and new elements to pore over everywhere.”

Each year, auto dealers and enthusiasts alike begin the process of speculating about what the upcoming model year will bring. Will there be full redesigns? New powertrains? A new addition to the lineup? Or is this a “leap year” with more modest updates for some vehicles?

After a major disruption to automotive production in 2021 due to the global pandemic, drivers are understandably on the edge of their seats in anticipation of the 2022 model year - and here in Prince George, the best-selling Toyota Tundra is certainly on everyone’s watch list! Though we don’t have access to the full inside scoop just yet, we’ve put together a list of our favourite 2021 Tundra features for those still looking to get one of the best pickup trucks on the market - plus a few 2022 predictions to satisfy our most curious customers!

2021 Tundra Features We Love

  • Standard V8 engine. While competitors like the F-150 and RAM 1500 are stocked with a standard V6 engine, making buyers pay big bucks for the V8 upgrade, Tundra sports a 5.7L i-Force V8 engine that’s good for 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque.

  • TRD Off Road trimline. Plenty of trucks make big promises about their off-road prowess, but Tundra delivers with the TRD Off Road trim. TRD Off Road can take on tough BC terrain with features like Bilstein shocks, beefy all-terrain tires, fuel tank protector plates, embedded navigation, blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert, clearance and backup sensors, and so much more.

  • Dependable Toyota Safety. All 2021 Tundra models are equipped with standard Toyota Safety Sense P, delivering the latest in intelligent driver assist safety features. These systems act as your extra set of eyes and ears on the road, helping you to relax and enjoy the journey.

Future Tundra Predictions!

Whether we end up right on the money or way off base, it can be fun to speculate about what the future holds for our favourite Toyota vehicles. Here are a few of our predictions for Prince George’s go-to pickup truck in the next year:

  • There is plenty of reason to believe that Toyota, an industry leader when it comes to electric vehicle technology, will unveil Tundra’s first hybrid powertrain in 2022 or 2023. Based on the success of electric technology in Toyota’s big SUVs like the RAV4 Prime and Highlander Hybrid, we expect a Tundra Hybrid to give competitors like the Ford F-150 PowerBoost a serious run for their money.

  • Toyota has been working hard to cover up the entire rear of the new Tundra, perhaps signalling some TRD-inspired upgrades to the rear suspension?

  • Initial snapshots of the new Tundra look big - really big! Beefy tires, a more angular body shape, and a grille that stands proud from under all that camouflage give us reason to think that the new Tundra will be sporting a major glow up.

“There are lights everywhere, from a trio of Ford-F-150-Raptor-style amber marker lights at the leading edge of the hood to corner markers on the fenders to a pair of slim LED fog lamps down low. There is even a huge LED strip glowing from what appears to be the centre of the grille opening. This being a teaser, it's unknown whether that central lamp is really just backlighting for a "TOYOTA" badge or if it's an off-road-style light bar.”
